Native Americans at our MissionWhat jobs did they have? Men had to hunt for fish and women gathered acorns, wild herbs, roots, and berries to help feed their family. Women also weaved cloths and clothes. They also boil down animal fat to make soap and candles.
Tribes that lived in the mission? The tribes that lived in the church are the Chalon, Esselen, Yokuts, and Salinan. What did they grow? They grew horse peas, spanish peas, corn, and wheat. How were the natives treated? The natives were treated horribly. The mission leaders are the native’s main source of labor. Also, they couldn’t run away. Did the missions hurt the Native ways of life? The mission hurt Native Americans by having an Epidemic, and shortages of food. The natives and the mission itself survived on imported food and .other missions. |
